Florianópolis, commonly known as Floripa, is the capital of Santa Catarina and the second most populous city in the state. It is formed by a conglomerate of islands, the largest being Santa Catarina Island, and a continental stretch. The city was recognized as a municipality in 1726.

Florianópolis also has a special nickname: the Island of Magic, which refers to its natural beauty, local folklore, and Azorean culture. There are more than 40 beaches, ranging from calmer, warmer waters to livelier ones, as well as historical sites, parks, and numerous nightlife options. You can also visit the Tamar Project, which works to preserve sea turtles.
